Yeah, I usually find that as a mime, I can usually make quick friends with b-boys with a very quick technical demonstration. Yes, I did hear a breakdancer explain that he learned a lot from watching Shields and Yarnell.

I don't know California well enough to know where you are, there should be someone teaching mime in the SF. Keep looking.

    Welcome Cyd!

    Hello mimes,

    my name is matt.

I am looking to explore miming as a way to expand my circus shenanigans... as a way to communicate a story to anyone anywhere... a universal language without words... very powerful stuff!

i enjoy spinning poi, hat tricks, juggling, unicycling, and ballroom dance...

on recommendation from someone on this tribe i ordered Claude Kipnis' "The Mime Book" from www.half.com for $1.50 + shipping -- score!
it should be here any day.... i'll let you all know how it is after i get a chance to play with it.

    check out this video.
its not me. and its not quite mime.. but i figure people here would appreciate it...

    okay bye

Get Tony Montanaro's book and video/DVD, "Mime Spoken Here". The Kipnis book is excellent; Tony shows you how to be a mime. Some of his best friends were jugglers and circus folk who found his teaching substantially improved their performance.

Google Mime Spoken Here and you should find how to get it.

Kipnis' book is in my view the best book on mime available in English-- though if you are serious about the artform, you will want a small library of books.

Montanaro's book (co-written with his wife, a dancer and mime with whom he often collaborated) is excellent as well-- lent it to a dancer friend of mine but never got it back!
